Innovation

Innovation is a cornerstone of the P.O.W.E.R. Women’s Health Prevention Centre. We are committed to transforming women’s cardiovascular care through the strategic integration of machine learning, artificial intelligence, and cutting-edge analytics.

A key pillar of our centre is attracting and training the next generation of scientists and clinicians with expertise in AI and data science. By embedding these students within a multidisciplinary environment that bridges clinical care and research, we are accelerating the pace of discovery and delivering precision tools to improve risk prediction, diagnosis, and treatment in women.

Two of our P.O.W.E.R. Hub Directors, Jessica Patone and Kristina Cunanan, are co-leading the research and development of a novel women’s heart health application, alongside co-founders Rojine McVea, Kathleen Gaudio, Rukia Al-Shumari, and Olivia Benguigui.

They are developing a holistic women’s heart health app designed to help women reduce their risk of heart disease through standardized risk assessments, consistent tracking, and community-driven resources—empowering early prevention, especially in underserved populations.

For women, by women, the app is currently being developed through the Dobson Centre for Entrepreneurship’s Entrepreneurial Women Lean Startup workshops.

We are proud to partner with Area19, an industry leader in AI-enabled health technologies, to co-develop novel solutions tailored to the unique biology and risk profiles of women.

Together, we aim to move the field forward—not just incrementally, but meaningfully—toward interventions that can improve and save the lives of millions.

Through this commitment to innovation, we are not only redefining how cardiovascular disease is understood in women—we are setting a new standard for what equitable, data-driven care can look like.
